Driving Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: Engr. Chichi Emenike to share insights on Gender Lens Investment at Gas Investment Forum 2023

Engr. Chichi Emenike, Head, Gas Ventures at Neconde Energy Limited (OML 42) & Study Group Chair (Diversity, Equality & Inclusion) Nigerian Gas Association, will contribute to discussions on empowering women-led gas businesses at Gas Investment Forum 2023, setting the tone for advancement in Nigeria’s decade of gas agenda.



The Gas Investment Forum is pleased to announce that Engr. Chichi Emenike, will speak at strategic conference program – scheduled to take place from October 30–31 in Lagos. During a keynote address session, Mrs Emenike will spearhead dialogue around Nigeria’s gas future, and the role of gender lens investment in empowering women led gas business for economic growth.



Nigeria has embarked on a comprehensive initiative aimed at harnessing the vast potential of its gas resources. The “Decade of Gas” plan seeks to expand gas infrastructure, increase domestic gas utilization, reduce gas flaring, and establish Nigeria as a gas hub in the West African region. The plan aligns with global efforts to transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources, making it a crucial aspect of the nation’s energy future.



The gender lens investment approach posits that investing in projects that benefit women and promote gender equality can have substantial social and economic returns. In Nigeria, this approach could play a pivotal role in the Decade of Gas initiative by ensuring that women are not left behind in the sector’s growth.



Chichi has over twenty two (22) years experience in the Oil and Gas Industry spanning across the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors. Her capabilities cut across diverse spectrums including but not limited to business development and strategy, engineering, project conceptualization & management, deals structuring, stakeholder management, technical procurement and overall contract administration.



She holds a B.Eng in Chemical Engineering from Enugu State University of Science & Technology and an MBA in Oil & Gas Management from the prestigious Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen.



She is a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Women In Energy Network (WIEN), Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) and a certified member with the Council for The Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).



Chichi started her early career in the Nigerian Oil & Gas industry as a Project Engineer with Exxon Mobil Nigeria Limited where she garnered cutting edge industry skills and experiences over a 10 year period. She moved on to other organizations where she gathered diverse experience across the entire industry value chain.



She is well-versed in negotiating industry contracts and has strong track records of closing commercial deals with venture partners as well as being versatile instructuring and financing of projects to ensure optimum value creation for all stakeholders.



Presently, Chichi is replicating her success strides in Neconde Energy Limited as the Head, Gas Ventures on OML42 where she is responsible for driving the company’s Gas business and positioning Neconde as a lead player for developing Gas supply in Nigeria. Also, Chichi is piloting the development and commercialization of Neconde’s Associated Gas (AG) and Non-Associated Gas (NAG) to boost production in alignment with the company’s strategic mandate of being responsible for about 12% of Nigeria’s total domestic Gas supply.



One of her main and core is the focus around unlocking the company’s Gas potential of over 3.8tcf of Gas reserves for increase value optimization for growth and profitability. Recently. she was one of the key leads on the team which secured the signed Finance, Technical and Services Agreement (FTSA) on OML42 which will have an investment of over $1B put into the development of the Asset.



She has served on the council of the Nigerian Gas Association (NGA) in the capacities of Financial Secretary and Secretary General. Currently, she is Chairperson of the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) Study Group of the Association.



As Nigeria takes substantial strides in its Decade of Gas plan, incorporating a gender lens investment approach could be a transformative strategy. By empowering women and ensuring their participation in all facets of the gas sector, Nigeria can unlock the full potential of its gas resources while advancing towards a more equitable and prosperous future.
